Main Point and Overview:
Sometimes in life we lose all hope. We get discouraged. We get afraid. We get “worn down,” leading to depression and anxiety. The disciples had just experienced the most traumatic moment of their lives. Their Rabbi was murdered right in front of their eyes. The one who they chose to abandon everything for was gone. How could this be? He was supposed to be the Messiah. He was supposed to restore the glory of Israel. The fact is that Jesus came to do something much greater – he came to restore the “broken” sinner to his magnificent creator. Jesus didn’t come to give Israel a position in the world; he came to give her (and the nations) a position in the Kingdom of God. It was when all hope seemed lost, that Jesus overcame sin, death, hell, and the Devil rising from the dead. Can you imagine the responses by the disciples when they now realized that the plan had come to fruition? It was pure, unimaginable joy. What once seemed hopeless, now, took on a completely different meaning. Jesus had predicted that they would one day truly realize what he had come to do. That time was now, but before they would “turn the world upside down” with the Gospel, they would celebrate the resurrection of their Savior. Sometimes, we need to “take a step back” and realize where our source of power is. Sometimes, we need to focus on the reality that the same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead, lives in us! Can you imagine that? God has given to you, through his Son, everything that you need for success over sin. The response of each disciple shows the magnitude of this moment. The world would never be the same! You and I would never be the same! How is that victory being manifested in us? Let’s celebrate – Jesus is the Lord God Almighty!
