1 Peter 5:6-7

1 Peter 5:6-7

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”

Years ago, back in high school, I chose these two verses as my “life verse”. They are 2 verses that I have used time and time again and try to base my life on. 1 Peter 5 is an exhortation to the elders of the church. The whole idea of the chapter is to have the elders of the church submitting to one another, helping each other, keeping each other vigilant and accountable, but ultimately, as we see in these two verses, we are to put each other under God. Many times throughout Scripture, you will see the idea of God wanting his children to act with humility. Christ is our ultimate example of humility. He chose to do His Father’s will by dying on the cross for our sins. These verses are a good reminder to be humble and show us that we humble ourselves and let God exalt us. He is going to take care of His children. He has a plan for us. He commands us to let go of our pride so we can truly glorify Him, and when we do so, we have patience in God’s timing, who promised to exalt us and to be there for us. This verse also shows us that to be humble, we must cast our cares upon God. It’s always been amazing to me how loving our God is. God wants us to give Him all our cares and all our anxieties. By doing this, it is really an act of humility and submission. God wants to take care of us and asks us to be humble by taking our cares away. Any time that I am feeling alone or feel like life is getting too busy or I must do everything by myself, I try to remember these verses that God cares for me, and true humility is realizing that I need to give all things to God.
