Colossians 3:12-17 & Philippians 1:3-11

Colossians 3:12-17 and Philippians 1:3-11

Picking a favorite verse is like trying to pick a favorite song – if you pick one over the other, you don’t want the other to get jealous ? So that’s why I chose 2 verses that mean a lot to me.

The Colossians verses speak to my soul, and I love the way it’s described like putting on clothes. It helps me remember daily that no matter how I’m FEELING at that time, it’s always good to put on compassion, kindness, humility, and patience. It reminds me to be forgiving, just as God has been patient with me and has forgiven all my sins.

Verses 16 and 17 are where I get my mission and direction for leading our worship team and congregation in our weekly gatherings. We aren’t getting together to put on a show for the people to sit and take in. We are collectively giving our praise and worship to our audience of one – God almighty! Through the music, prayer, and reading of scripture, we are encouraged, challenged, and reminded of God’s goodness. We don’t sing to hear ourselves; we take our overflow of gratitude and “pour out our praise!”

Speaking of the worship team, that leads me to my other favorite verses in Philippians. Over the past 8 years, I've had the privilege to get to know members of the worship team and hear their struggles, rejoice with their victories, and encourage their growth. It’s always my goal to encourage them in their giftings, to stretch them out of their comfort zones, and to show them gratitude for their service. God reminds me constantly that the people on my team are not just an instrumental player, vocalist, or tech operator; they are a child of God first and foremost.
If you get the opportunity, get to know someone on the worship team – ask them to share their testimony, and it’ll open your eyes to see what God has done in their life and why they choose to praise Him!

If you play an instrument or have any interest in technology, I'd love to have you get involved with the worship team. Please fill out this interest form, and I’ll get in contact with you.
