When we accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior we were instantly filled with the gift of the Holy Spirit. This is something that the disciples did not understand at the time of Jesus’ death. We see over and over disciples asking Jesus what he means when he talks about leaving. Jesus calls them out in today's verses, none of them asked where he would be going. However, Jesus tells the disciples without me going away, the advocate cannot come. I can only imagine the confusion that could have been on the minds of the disciples when they heard these words. For us we can put the dots together and know Jesus is speaking of the Holy Spirit. I don't know about you, but I am beyond thankful Jesus saw through the other side, paying our price for sin, and rising three days later defeating death—but he didn't stop there, rather than us being alone, he sent the holy spirit, the advocate, the comforter, to dwell inside believers so we will never be alone.
John 16:8 “When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment”
The convictions we face are from the Holy Spirit, trying to help us have judgement over what is right and wrong. We often hear people say, how could that person do that? Do they not know what they are doing is wrong? Well brothers and sisters, we cannot expect them to know if they are not believers in Jesus Christ. So let this be an encouragement to stay on mission, to share the love of God, and the salvation we have in Christ Jesus to those around us so that they may receive the free gift of salvation, and be filled with the Holy Spirit—the one who brings conviction and growth in our lives.
