Asking in Faith & Obedience

“When God moves in your life, it will be undeniable!” Does that line look familiar? I borrowed it from Pastor John’s “Main Point and Overview”. Thanks Pastor John! If you’ve been reading along this week, you’ve seen a beautiful theme of the undeniable power of Jesus as he heals physical afflictions and spiritually sickness.

1 John 3 is such an incredible portion of scripture. When I’m asked the question, “does God really love people?”, or “what does it mean to be a child of God?”, or ”does God’s love really trump my guilt?”, this chapter provides an abundance of answers, including the main belief of our Christian faith. For today, we will zoom in on just four verses from that chapter.

1 John 3:21-24 “Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him. And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. The one who keeps God’s commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.”

God is greater!! Greater than all our sins, greater than our guilt, greater than our hearts, and greater than our FEELINGS! That is the confidence that we have, so rest in that today and every day. One of the most incredible gifts from God is that we were created with a mind, and we have the power of choice! We can choose to ask in faith and obedience. As we obey him, we live deeply and surely in him, and he lives in us. Obedience matters, and it’s a key to answered prayer! Let’s be real, we aren’t (or shouldn’t be) obeying God just to “get” something from him. We obey because it’s a byproduct of our devotion, love, and reverence to him. Obeying is communing with him, the sweet fellowship of listening to him, getting to know him, walking with him, talking to him, and desiring to align our will with his. I’d be remiss if I didn’t highlight the command to “love one another”. This one might be worth keeping at the top of our minds in today’s divisive climate.

Now back to the first line on the page. “When God moves in your life, it will be undeniable!” God is moving, and God will continue to move! Are you asking in faith and confidence? As you continue to abide in him, and boldly and expectantly ask, be ready to receive—then point the glory and undeniable power back to God the Father.
