Holy Purpose-Driven

1 Kings 5:1-7
Solomon was ready to build the temple that he was always instructed that he would one day build for the Lord. It was prophesied in the time of David that Solomon would one day be able to build the temple to God. In the time of David there was not enough peace in the land for David to be able to build the temple. But now, under Solomon’s wise ruling, a time of plenty and peace has come upon the land. Solomon continued to work even when the times were easy! As king of a prospering peaceful nation, he could have taken time to say this is enough and look at all that I have done for the nation, but that is not what Solomon chooses to do! He has a purpose for the nation! He wants to see the glory given to God and he was to build the temple. He is praised for his choice to build the temple. Solomon is considered the wisest man who has ever lived. He was given this wisdom by the Lord Himself! Solomon did not sit idly by when things were going smoothly. Our culture seems to teach us that when we work hard and achieve all our goals in life we can go and do whatever we want! Solomon found a new way to serve God! His goal was more than just for the nation to be at peace. He wanted to honor God in his life, and he wanted to fulfill the purpose that was bestowed upon him. He did not sit idly when things were easy. He did not spend his life as king doing nothing even though the kingdoms were at peace. He fulfilled the purposes that were given to him, and that being to build the temple. It is good at times to rest, but what do we do when life is easy? Sometimes this is when things can be the most dangerous. We start doing what we want and pursuing our own interests instead of those of our God. We can even find ourselves slipping into temptation and sin because we allow ourselves to become comfortable. We tell ourselves that it was us who put ourselves into this now easy life and we deserve it! This can be very dangerous! We must understand who is the great provider. Jesus is the one who has set us free! He is the one who provides our comfort and all things belong to Him! We are stewards of the things that we possess nothing more! Thanks be given to God for the things in our lives that he gives us to enjoy! Keep giving all the glory to God especially when God is blessing you and things are going well in your life!
