When We Let Jesus Down, But....

I don’t know about you but there are times when I feel as if I have let Jesus down. May it be the temptation that we let win or the missed opportunities we had to share his love. Just this past week Sarah and I were out on a date night, we went out to the movies and followed that up with dinner. Both times Sarah and I talked about missed opportunities, did we let God down? All the way to the restaurant we talked about how we could have stood by the exit and invited each person to church that week as they exited the movie. The conversation then turns to Bonhoeffer the movie we just finished watching and impact on the German Church. Bonhoeffer was a pastor during the Holocaust that pushed back on the Nazi party. When the German Church was being intruded by the Nazi party, he stood up and preached it was not about religion or “The man” but about Jesus! A very bold move and an inspiration. However, there are times that I read about these amazing stories or see a movie about someone, and I stop and think, am I not doing enough? Am I letting Jesus down?

There will be times when we did not give it all, there will be times when we didn’t act. We are fresh, we battle this daily. We know from scripture Judas betrays Jesus with a kiss; Peter denies Christ not once but three times. If those so close to him can let him down, there will be times when we fall short as well. BUT it doesn’t end there. Just as the title states “When we let Jesus down, but” … it's not a matter of if we let him down it’s a matter of when, but we have a God that loves us so much that he gives us a “but.”  That “but” is the forgiveness he offers us—we need to make the most of every moment when we have the opportunity, we need to remain connected to the branch when facing good times and bad. Let’s all commit to not living by the “but he will forgive me” and let's live to bring honor and glory to the Savior of the world!
