Main Point and Overview:
The disciples were dependent on Jesus, and Jesus was about to ascend back to God the Father in heaven. They never “signed up” for Jesus to leave them. In fact, they were absolutely not ready for it. It’s such a teachable moment for all of us. Would it be easier for a young child to ride his bike with training wheels for the rest of his life? Would it be easier to bowl with the bumper pads in the lanes the rest of your life? Would it be easier to stay in a comfortable, no pressure job, the rest of your life? I could give you a thousand examples of “easier,” yet easier is NOT what the disciples were called to do! Jesus was about to leave them but not without a lifeline! They would soon receive the Holy Spirit, who would empower and encourage them beyond what they ever could have imagined. So many times we live in fear holding onto a “crutch” so that we don’t “fall!” Jesus wanted his disciples to “step up to the moment” and be bold for the Gospel cause! What about you? Are you ready for life’s challenges? What we must do is realize that we have everything within us for success! No! This is not some “self-help, reach into your potential, you can do it” gimmick! This is a massive reminder, one that we actually need, that the same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead lives in you if you know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior! What amazing encouragement! The Holy Spirit is here to comfort, correct, and counsel us. He is the one who brings conviction through our committed words of truth. We need to stop living as if we are defeated and to draw upon our spiritual inheritance! Jesus was calling his disciples to boldly stand for truth utilizing supernatural power. What about you? Are you ready to apply the Holy Spirit to your journey of faith?
