Worry: give way to anxiety or unease; allow one's mind to dwell on difficulty or troubles.
Why is it that we all struggle with worrying. We could find almost anything to worry about if we really wanted to. For myself, I worry about everything. Ever since I can remember I wanted to make friends with anyone and everyone, but I always had the thought in the back of my mind what if they don't want to be my friend back. Growing up I worried about the future, where I would work, where I would live, who would I marry? The list goes on and on. Today’s verse has been a huge reminder of the last couple of months to think kingdom first and not worry first. At times this may be easier said than done, but why? Are we afraid that what we want may not be what we need? As we close out the election season some of you may be worried about the future of the United States, others may be worried about the future of the world. But as dive into the text today, we know that God is in control and when we think kingdom first, we can go on with confidence God does not break his promises.
Jesus is spelling it out simple to us in the text that we are not to worry about the small things, such as what to eat or wear—he reminds us that the birds in the sky are feed by him, and we are more than them! We have a Savior that provides for us each and every single day. Jesus goes on and tells us that even Solomon in all his splendor was nothing compared to what God clothes us in.
I hope we can all take a few minutes in prayer and submit anything we are currently worrying about to God. Let us remind ourselves daily that we need a kingdom first mindset every single day. Let us have confidence that the God who promised to make Abraham a father of many nations, is the same God that provides for us every day.
