Colossians 3:16-17
“It may be Friday, but Sunday’s coming...”
This is such an encouraging quote around Good Friday and Easter. From a worship ministry point of view though, this is a weekly reminder of the need to plan and schedule volunteers for Sunday gatherings. I’ve been blessed to be the full-time worship director at Emmanuel now since 2020 (part time in 2018 and 2019) and have learned SO MUCH about leadership, discipleship, teamwork, and technology (*cough* livestreaming *cough*). I give all the glory to God for bringing talented and willing team members who have become dear friends in the process of serving together in worship ministry at Emmanuel. 2022 brought the blessings and challenges of starting our Grand Blanc campus, which I had to rely on many of our Flint band volunteers to double their workloads by leading worship with me at both campuses.
Thankfully over the past 2 years, God has provided musicians and technicians (sometimes reluctantly) to step out of their comfort zones in order to serve. We now have 52 worship and tech volunteers serving on a rotating basis over our 3 gatherings! If you’re reading this now, you might think “WOW, that’s a lot of volunteers! Sam, why are you always asking for more team members?” It’s because many of the worship and tech volunteers also volunteer in other ministries at the church. Sometimes people like to take a Sunday off so they can worship with their family. I’m so thankful for our talented youth band and the gifts they have, but I can’t rely solely on them (they graduate). We need adults to step up and use their gifts and talents in worship and tech. As Emmanuel continues to grow and seek to bring the gospel to other areas in and around Genesee County through our multi-site model, the time to get involved is NOW! If you have musical or technical giftings, PLEASE fill out an interest form at www.weareemmanuel.life/worship and I will get in touch with you about finding you a place to serve and belong.
August is TRAINING MONTH, and I will be holding tech team trainings on August 17th and 31st for audio, lyrics, camera, and video switcher.
Also, please pray for our team as we will be having our first intensive Worship Team Revive Retreat on August 22nd - 24th.
