Psalm 34:1-3
I can’t help but think of the Forrest Frank song: Celebration! We sing it with the kids on Sunday mornings and it is such a beautiful reminder to truly Praise God for all He has done! One of the things I love most about the idea of celebration is that it can be done even in the midst of tragedy, heartbreak, uncertainty, doubt and depression! Even in the worst of the worst situations, we still have so much to thank God for! At the very least, we can sing praises to Him for our salvation and for what Jesus did for us on the cross!
Psalm 34:1-3 perfectly describes celebration. 1. We can praise the Lord constantly, at all times. 2. When we celebrate, we point people to Him and not ourselves. 3. We can celebrate together! We read this portion of Scripture every week in our staff meetings, and it’s such a reminder that we should be celebrating!
1. All the time! God is good, even when life is not. We’re all bound to struggle through conflict and trials; whether within the church walls or outside! As followers of Jesus, we are warned that trials will come our way! But we can see little touches of Jesus in each of those trials. God continues to work and use trials and tragedy to bring glory to Him! He saves people when they get to their lowest and realize they need help from Him.
2. It is not us, but Him through us! When our kids do something incredible, it is not because of how awesome they are or how awesome you are as a parent. It is because of God! He provided, He created, and He grew! This goes for anything! The Bible warns us about pride and this is why. When we take credit, we shift the focus off of Him and onto ourselves.
3. We are meant to celebrate together! When something big happens in your life, do you just keep it to yourself? NO! We run and tell our loved ones so we can celebrate together!
I encourage you to take a moment each day this week and get in the habit of just praising. It can be so easy to pray when we need, but mirror the Lord’s prayer and don’t forget to CELEBRATE!
