Unbelievable God

Luke 5:6-7
If your family is anything like mine you are still recovering from the Easter feast of Ham, mashed potatoes, and so much more. At times it feels like thanksgiving on steroids because it often involves lots of candy and like stated above a feast. However, as believers we know it's not about the food, candy, Easter eggs or anything else. We celebrate that our Savior Jesus Christ rose from the grave, defeating death! That right there is enough to justify today’s title Unbelievable God!

When we truly stop and think about how amazing our God really is, words really can not describe Him. We serve a God who gives us everything we need and sometimes more! We see the same thing happening for Peter and the rest of the fisherman in today's Bible reading.  Luke 5:6-7 tells us:

“When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.”

Now a little back story on this passage is that Jesus was teaching people just a little off shore while sitting in Simon’s boat. Once He finished teaching, He told Simon to cast out the nets. Now imagine spending a whole night fishing, not catching much or maybe even anything, just to be told to throw out your nets again. Simon obeyed but he states in verse 5: “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.

Which leads us into today's verse where the nets overflowed with fish and began to sink the boats. It's important for us to understand two main thoughts from all of this.
  1. The same Jesus who filled the empty nets with fish is the same Jesus who walked out of that grave and defeated death.
  2. We can trust that God is going to move in ways we never thought possible.

Let today be a reminder that our God is mighty, worthy, all powerful, loving, but all together unbelievable good! Let’s take the fire that is burning inside of us from celebrating Jesus’ resurrection and let us tell the world around us about our God!
