Nehemiah 10:30-39
Have you ever gotten that feel-good attitude when you complete a task or goal? The kind that makes you stop for a minute and say what’s next! I’m ready to tackle anything! Well, I imagine that is what Nehemiah and his team felt like as well when they finished the project. When we complete a major task or overcome a setback, we tend to find our purpose to continue to keep going. In today’s scripture reading, we see that those who helped build the wall, as well as the priest, Levites, gatekeepers, and everyone around, separated themselves from the neighboring people for the sake of the Law. (This doesn’t mean I can separate myself from all the Michigan Fans in the church) However, that's not the main point; the main point is that they set a promise and then followed through with purpose! As we continue to read today's verse, we see they divided up times for each person to bring their wood, food, and bread offerings to the House of the Lord. They followed up their words with actions! They did anything they could give to the House of the Lord, so when they saw mighty work that was just completed, they were on fire for the Lord. Nehemiah ends chapter 10 with “we will not neglect the House of our God”
What about us? We read time after time all the promises that God has made, and we read about them coming true. He promises Jesus Christ will return, and we believe that 100000%. Are we able to take the promises and turn them into purpose? Are you fired up to do whatever it takes to not neglect the House of God? Are we willing to work hand and hand with brothers and sisters in Christ to see God work in a mighty way? The Bible tells us that the priests, Levites, gatekeepers, musicians, and temple servants gave anything and everything first to the Lord. So, I ask you, what can you bring to the House of God? I am not just talking about giving financially. What talents or skills can you bring to God and say use these? As parents, do we bring our children to God to bless and ask God to use them? Long story short, we get to read about God’s promises coming true! Let it draw us into purpose! The purpose is to see Jesus Christ lifted high, high above anything this world has to offer!
