Nehemiah 6:10-13
It is safe to say no one likes being accused of something you didn't do. If you come from a family like mine, where there are 6 kids, it was often easier to pass the blame on someone else rather than take the heat. Of course, that is not the right thing to do at all, but unfortunately, it happens all over. From siblings to workplaces, people try and accuse others of some sort of personal gain or to see others fail. As we continue through the sermon series on Nehemiah, we see time after time people trying to stop him from completing the wall, but in today's scripture, we see a false prophet take it one step further. He tries to get Nehemiah to enter the Temple. Nehemiah 6 verse 10 tells us,
“One day I went to the house of Shemaiah son of Delaiah, the son of Mehetabel, who was shut in at his home. He said, “Let us meet in the house of God, inside the temple, and let us close the temple doors, because men are coming to kill you—by night they are coming to kill you.”
Nehemiah was not a priest, so he would be sinning if he entered the Temple and hid from the men who were supposed to “kill him.” Nehemiah knew that God wouldn't lead him to sin, so he trusted in God over what another man said. What a powerful lesson we can all take from Nehemiah. Are we truly thinking of the Will of God, or do we have too much trust in man? Are we willing to count the cost for every choice we make? Are we being led blindly, listening to the world? The enemy is going to try and put pressure on us just as he did with Nehemiah to try and get us to slip. Just as Nehemiah did, we need to speak out when the traps come at us. We need to trust God, not fear, once again, Nehemiah was able to identify that what he was being asked to do went against the will of God, and he took a stance. As we live out our faith, we too are going to get accused of many things and or have the enemy try and trip us up. Be on guard, not every attack will be a giant one, Satan will through little things in our way, so we brush over them. Let's be like Nehemiah and hold firm!
