Philippians 4:10-13
Paul starts here by showing thanks and rejoicing in the believers of Philippi. They are a church who have always had a love for Paul, and Paul always had a love for them. He then tells us that he is content and that He can do all things through Christ. It is interesting to me that contentment and a reliance on Christ go together. He actually says it is the secret. This whole book of Scripture is about Joy and Paul pouring out his emotions about how he feels, even though he is in a difficult situation. He knows that God is in control, and he knows that no matter what comes his way, he can do all things through God who gives him strength. Because he has this peace, he understands that there is nothing to worry about, nothing that he needs because God is there to take care of him and watch over him. Paul’s contentment came from the understanding of God being in control. This is his peace that we see throughout the passage, and it leads to rejoicing not just in God but to those who care about him and are showing him the love of God as well. Understanding God’s care led to peace, contentment, and joy for Paul. God is truly good and wants us to rely on Him.
