Luke 19:6 “So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.”
If you are not familiar with Zacchaeus, I strongly encourage you to read Luke 19:1-10. What a powerful moment in Zacchaeus' life! A moment I imagine he never forgot or stopped thinking about it. The Bible tells us that he went ahead of the crowds, found a tree to climb, and waited until Jesus came, just so he could see him. As I take time this passion week and think of the events Jesus went through, I think of this story. Zacchaeus made a choice, the choice to go ahead of the crowd and wait. He did not run into the crowded area, as he knew he would not be able to see, but he went where the crowd was not. As I read this, I ask myself am I putting myself in a position to see the mighty work of God or am I rushing into the crowded area of this world? The story doesn't stop there, Jesus calls out to him and tells him to come down, Jesus then tells him he will be staying with him, and Zacchaeus welcomes him with open arms. Once again, a choice was made. A choice I think looking back we would all make without skipping a beat to welcome the Savior of the World into our homes.
As we reflect back on the Cross, I ask you, have you made the ultimate choice? Have you made the decision to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? Do you surrender your life for his glory? This choice is not a phase, nor is it temporary. The choice of salvation is a lifetime decision.
We all know the choices we make have lasting impacts on us. Zacchaeus did what he had to do and ultimately came to salvation. Let us take time today, and make the choice to run towards our Creator and not the things of this world.
