When I was a kid, I remember going with my parents to the RV dealership. I knew well in advance this was going to be one of the most boring days of my life. Walking in and out of campers until they found the perfect one (not knowing if they would or not), then having to sit in a chair as they filled out all the paperwork. I was already wanting the day to pass, but things took a change for good when we arrived. Just like any kid does I annoyed my parents so much that they gave me money to buy something from the vending machine. I went over and hit the button to see how much a pop was going to cost. As I hit the button the machine started to make noises and out came an Orange Pop for free! I looked around not knowing what had just happened. I then decided to press the button again and Ta Da another one came out. I remember running back to my parents with TWO POPS and MONEY! Both my parents and the salesman were so confused, they took me over to the machine to see such a thing. Just as you expect it happened again, I felt powerful and didn't want the day to end. I begged my parents to stay longer so I could keep getting items for free! Let’s be honest who wouldn’t do that.
Paul’s letter to the Philippian's encourages them to have that same mindset to keep it going! He tells us:
“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.”
For them to continue growing in Christ that they may be able to discern what is best and pure in God’s eyes. Here is the kicker, it is so easy for us to keep going when things are going great, but what about when things aren't going great? What about when the enemy is attacking us, do we just give up? Of course not! We need to remain faithful and keep pushing forward, as believers we have Christ with us—something the world and Satan doesn't have, something that is more powerful than anything the world can offer us. Just as Paul prayed for the church in Philippi to keep going, we too should be praying for each other to keep it going!
