Open Your Eyes

John 3:10-15
This past year at our annual staff retreat we had a team building exercise that pulled me out of my comfort zone. I was partnered with Kyle Wendle, I was then blindfolded and was led throughout Lake Ann Camp with Kyle “leading me.” I ended up sitting in a disc golf basket, hugging a tree, and tripping over many sticks. Long story short I was beyond thankful when I was finally able to open my eyes! I felt safe and secure!

Sometimes as Christians we walk through our Journey of faith with our eyes closed when we should be keeping our eyes on Christ. We see in John 3 Jesus is speaking with Nicodemus and he says starting in verse 10:

“You are Israel’s teacher, said Jesus, and do you not understand these things? Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things?”

Jesus is calling Nicodemus to wake up and open his eyes! It’s easy for us to sit back and say we wouldn't act like Nicodemus but how often do we do it without trying. It’s time for us to open our eyes and put our full faith and trust in Jesus. When the world tries to cover our eyes and get us to respond in fear, let us trust and lean on the understanding of God (Proverbs 3) to get us through it. The salvation of others is at stake! When we live with our eyes blinded we are affecting the gospel opportunities that are in front of us.
