Mark 7:13-24
Jesus is speaking! In Mark 7:13-24, Jesus is here with his disciples and is speaking to the crowd of people. He is making all foods here clean. He is talking about the Law, as the original writer of the Law and is saying that from now on, all foods are considered clean. He is making a statement when doing this. He was not just doing this because he felt like it, Jesus was making the statement that all evil comes from the heart! It is the heart that is sinful and wicked. Our wickedness does not come from the stomach or what we take into our bodies, it comes from within our own hearts. This is what Jesus is trying to teach the people. We are sinners because of the wickedness of our own hearts! It is always interesting to me being a parent, I have 3 children that I love more than my own life, but they are sinners through and through! I did not have to teach them how to sin! It is obvious even with my now one year old son Edmond! He is so adorable and cute and I love him, he is my favorite son (and only son)! He is only one year old but there are plenty of times that I can see that he has a sin nature. He reminds this fact to me and his mother, and his sisters on a daily basis. His new thing lately is to throw a fit, he gets down completely on the floor and does the worm in a complete horrible crying state if he does not immediately get what he wants (which is usually his mom holding him). You cannot help but laugh at him because he looks so ridiculous! The Bible tells us that we are born with a sin nature and Jesus is proving that here by telling people that their evil comes from their own hearts! Praise God for the salvation of sinners! None of us are good in any way! We needed Jesus to come and be the salvation of our hearts!
