Romans 2:5-11
I had a Bible Study with some of my teens in the youth group. That study mentioned that most people who do things that are wrong are not fully aware of their sin or do not want to acknowledge what they are doing is even sinful. We as people do not like to admit that we need to change! We are stubborn and deceitful not just to others but mainly to ourselves. We want to do what we believe to be right in our own eyes. I have heard the saying that everyone is the hero to their own story. Most people in the world today would claim to be a “good person.” No one likes to claim that they do wrong things. I know what is right and what is wrong. I have been a believer since I was a kid and yet there are plenty of times that I sin, and my wife needs to call me out on it before I even realize what it is I am doing wrong! Even when she does, it does not come naturally to accept what she says and move forward with real heart change. As people, we are so stubborn! I want to give any excuse I can to prove myself as right or at least justified for my wrong actions. The Bible is very clear here on the wrath of God. Those who reject Christ, those who store up wrath in their hearts and are unrepentant, bring themselves to the day of God’s wrath. Man’s sin since Adam is wanting to make ourselves the god of our own life. We want to be the end all be all to our decisions. We do not want to have to question our wants and desires. We want to do what is right in our own eyes! This is man’s sin; we want the power that only God Himself has. God is our Creator and we are made in His Image! Our sin is the corruption of this idea and saying I do not care that I was made in your image, I want to be the god over my own self and the image I want to create for myself. Man wants to do what is right in his own eyes with no one who can judge him. This is not what the Bible says happens though. God’s day of judgment will come, and His wrath will come for all of those who are too stubborn to repent! Do not be stubborn, turn to Jesus, and as a believer learn more about Him and His love for you daily! Be willing to say that you are not always right and have things to work on. Let God and His Spirit work within you and continually be transformed by His grace!
