Romans 6:11-14
Jesus has saved us! We are saved by grace, and we are now under grace! When you believe in the Lord Jesus and he saves you from your sin, you are no longer a slave to that sin! The Bible is very clear that those who are not saved by the grace of God can do nothing to save themselves. They are a slave to their sinful nature. Everything we do before Christ is as dirty rags! Nothing we do on our own could ever change that. But when Christ came down and saved us from our sins, for those who believe in Him, God no longer sees our sin but Christ who stands in front and says this is someone who I have died for! We are no longer slaves to sin. We are here now to serve Christ! However, this does not mean that we do not sometimes still sin. Jesus rescued me from my sin when I was six years old. I wanted to give my life to Jesus and I wanted Jesus to save me and he did! I have not been sinless since I was six (how great would that be). Although we are not sinless, we no longer have to give ourselves over to sin! We can choose to live for Christ each and every day because he died for us! Sin is no longer our master; we no longer follow its wishes. Every day we can wake up and choose to praise the Lord for what He has done because God has brought death to life! This is sometimes easier said than done. Some days I wake up and it is just difficult. It can be difficult sometimes to wake up and immediately do what is right. I have three children; it is very rare that I wake up naturally anymore. Nine times out of ten I am being woken up by one of my three children who need something. I love my children, but sometimes I need to sleep, or better put, I desire to sleep. This desire that I have for sleep, which is now being taken away from me, can lead me to wake up and have my first reaction to be lashing out in anger that someone just woke me up. I do not always wake up and want to do what is right! Every day we are to turn to God, go to him in prayer, and read His Word, allowing Him to fuel us every day, giving us the strength we need to say, “God, I am no longer a slave to sin!” We have the opportunity to now choose to live righteously for God because of His grace and the grace that we now live in! Christian, overcome your evil desires every day and live for God!
