Romans 6:8-10
I think it safe to say when anyone thinks of the word death, it’s in a negative or sad way. No one truly wants to die. We have a long list of unchecked bucket list items or even simple tasks that are not completed. The world tells us death is the end. However, as believers in Jesus Christ, death has no real power over us! As born-again followers we know that death is just the beginning. The beginning of no more suffering. The beginning of worshiping our Savior face to face. Of course, as believers we will still have that list of unfinished tasks here on earth, but we also will finish the race we were called to live.
1 Corinthians 15:55-57 tells us:
“Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
The enemy wants us to be afraid of the persecution that is coming and hide from the Gospel. However, as believers, death has no power. The same power that rose Jesus from the grave is the same power that is in the Holy Spirit. IF we truly believe that to be true today, let that be what fuels us to push back on the enemy's scare tactics.
Paul writes in Romans 6:8:
“Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.”
I recently had the honor to officiate two funerals in early December; one was for a dear neighbor of ours and the other was my uncle. Both of them had a personal relationship with the Lord. The celebration of life of course was a time of grief, but more importantly it was filled with peace. We knew that the struggles of the world were no longer on them as they were called home. Where do you stand with God? Does death scare you? If so, why? I long for the day where I can see Jesus face to face. Of course, I don’t want to miss out on precious moments with friends and family. Yet, I know when the hour comes and I am called home, I know that the best days are just beginning.
