1 Corinthians 12:20-27
We are the body of Christ! God has saved us and his given each person a calling! All of us have talents given to us by God. None of us are greater than the other. It is so easy to say, “well, I do not really know where I fit in, or what it is that I am to be doing.” Not all of us are called to be missionaries, or to be pastors, or to be on the worship team. Years ago, I read a book that talked about how not all people will lead a lot of the lost to Christ. We are not all “reapers” as he called it. We are not all going to give someone the gospel and have them ready to make that decision to follow Jesus right then and there. It is not for us as Christians to “save” people at all, what we are all called to do is be “planters.” We are to plant the seed in giving the gospel. For some people it seems like everyone they talk to ends up turning to Jesus. For most of us however, it can seem like no one ever listens when we talk about our faith or Jesus or anything Biblical at all, for that matter. Honestly, most of us have a hard time even talking about our faith because we have lost all confidence that the person we are talking to believes it makes a difference in their life anyway. Truth is, we are to plant a seed in that person's life no matter their response at the time. Most people we tell about Jesus, we may never even know if they will respond to Christ, but we are still to tell them and plant the seed.
All of us have different gifts that God has given us. Different talents that we can use. I think about my wife Heidi, she has always been so good with the younger kids. That is a gift from God! We are all called to different things. God uses those who are willing, He always has! Use your gifts for God! The other truth here is that we all need each other and each others gifts, and if one person of the body of Christ is suffering then we all suffer. It is pretty normal when we are struggling to want to hide that part of us away, we want to shove it down or not open up to the people closest to us to “not bother them.” The Bible tells us that the body is to have “equal concern for each other” (25). The Holy Spirit indwells all believers! God Himself is who connects us together. We are all His children.
The church is made for broken people. You are not alone! If one part of the body is hurting, then it affects the whole body. We are here for Christ and what he has done for us, and Christ wants us to be here for each other! Jesus has always used people and their talents to accomplish His will. This is true when it comes to telling people about Christ. and it is also true when it comes to building each other up and being there for one another. Use your talents for Christ and His body of believers. and be there for one another!
