Romans 5:1-2
We just finished celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ as well as the start of the new year. If your family is anything like our family, it is celebrated with lots of food and time spent with family, full of laughter and naps. (Nothing wrong with a post-celebration nap.) Although sometimes I think we can take for granted celebrations, it's awesome to celebrate accomplishments such as graduation, baby showers, birthdays, and so much more, but when was the last time we celebrated the moment when we put our faith in Jesus Christ? No, I am not talking about having party hats, treats, and all that, but a time of thanksgiving. Romans 5:1-2 tells us,
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we[a] have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we[b] boast in the hope of the glory of God.
One of the many things that I love about Emmanuel is when the ENTIRE church celebrates when someone gets baptized. This isn't just a little golf clap, but you can hear people cheering. This is what we should be doing: celebrating when someone has put their trust in Jesus Christ! It’s a major thing! With that being said, in our staff chat, we all give God the glory when we see someone turn from death to new life. As Christians, we should celebrate these things. Just as Paul says in Romans, let us boast in the hope of the glory of God. We are not boasting because of what we did, let's boast in what Jesus Christ did.
Forest Frank has a song called Celebration, part of the chorus goes “Let’s have a celebration, if you believe that Jesus set you free.” Let that be a daily occurrence, let’s start each day celebrating the life we found in Christ, and do not take it for granted.
