Give Them What They...Need

Acts 3:1-10

Peter seized an opportunity to do the right thing and lead himself to spread the Word of God! The man asked for his wants to be met. Peter, using the power given to him by God, heals the man! The man wanted money. He is a beggar. He is lame, cannot work on his own two feet, and is begging people for handouts. He has clearly been doing this for some time, because he is recognized instantly by the other people around him after he is healed. Peter did not give him what he asked for; he provided the man with what he needed! Not only the ability to walk, but what the man truly needed was Jesus! Peter does what we are all called to do! He seizes the opportunity to give people the gospel! He cares for the lame man and the people around him. I think in my own life, it is easy to walk by opportunities of sharing the gospel. There are always so many reasons not to care about sharing God’s Great News of Jesus and what he does for us. It is so intimidating to spread the Word of God! This is what all people need! Yes, Peter healed his disability, but this only helps the man for a time. Peter seizes this opportunity to springboard himself into an opportunity to give the gospel. Now it's easy to look at this passage in my mind and go well, sure, but I cannot do something as awesome or do not have any kind of ability like Peter did to heal someone. But what do you have? God has given you so much! He has given you everything that you need to spread his Word. What is it that you can use for the spread of the gospel? Peter healed the man and gave him the ability to use his legs. I bet he used those to run and tell everyone he could! I bet the once lame man used the gift given to him! What has God given you? Who is it that you are struggling to give the gospel to when you know you need to? Be like Peter, seize the opportunity to spread the good news of Jesus Christ!
