Inordinate Praise

Nehemiah 12:31-43

How do you tend to respond to God providing in your life? Do you take time to stop and recognize how God got you through the possible trial or hardship in your life? Do you just jump to the next thing and quickly forget about everything because you're caught up in the busyness? When God works in our lives, we must stop and praise Him. He is worthy of our praise!

Here in Nehemiah, we see God do a great work through Nehemiah and the people. The walls are restored physically, but God also calls their hearts to Him. The people then gathered to celebrate and to worship this great work that God had done. They stopped to focus and praise Him. Two great choirs gathered together to walk the walls right where their enemies had once mocked them. They sang, played instruments, offered sacrifices, rejoiced, and worshipped God. I love how in verse 43 it says that the joy of Jerusalem was heard from far away. Their praise wasn’t quiet, but it was loud and made known to many people to see and hear.

The people of Jerusalem worshipped because God had worked through them in a way that they could have never done on their own. God had called those to lead, strengthened the people, and protected them. Their praise was to make it known everything God had done and promised. Worship was the only response.

Too often, we keep what God is doing in our lives hidden. We keep our praises silent or unknown. Or we just get caught up in life that we forget to praise God for what He does. We have to be moved to worship in our lives. Let us not neglect this! God is worthy of our worship in all ways. Let us remember what He has done and what He has gotten us through. Also, let us praise and worship Him even when He answers in ways we didn’t want. Let our joy in Him be known to others. But not in a way that we are pointing to ourselves, but in a way that we are constantly showing what God is doing! Let our lives be God’s Story for God’s Glory! Let us also worship and praise together! We can celebrate what God is doing in each other’s lives. We can show the world who our great God is and that He is worthy of all praise!

How has God moved in your life recently? Have you taken the time to praise Him about it? Take a few minutes to really think and pray about it.
