Putting Good People in Place

Nehemiah 7:1-3

The massive task of building the wall has finally been finished. However, the work doesn’t stop there for Nehemiah. Nehemiah needs to find people he can appoint to leadership for the long term to help oversee and be faithful stewards of what God has restored. The wall being restored was a huge deal, but this is also a very big deal. When looking for someone to lead, what do you think would be a great characteristic to have or to look for? I love that Nehemiah shares the reason why he appointed one of these leaders. The reason was that they were men of integrity, and they feared God more than most people. What great qualities to display in leadership! Integrity is so important when it comes to leadership. We need leaders who will not waver but instead stand for what is right. When looking for a leader, look for someone who has integrity. The best leadership character that can be displayed beyond integrity is a fear of the Lord. When looking for a true leader, we need to find someone who loves the Lord above anyone else and someone who has a healthy fear of the Lord. One that recognizes who the Lord is and His mighty power. One who does not want to oppose the Lord. One that will not be waivered by the fear of man because they realize that the fear of God is more important. God is so much greater; let us be people who have our eyes set on Him rather than those who may oppose us. When looking for a leader, especially in the church, look for someone who has integrity and a fear of the Lord.

When it comes to you, how can you have these characteristics? What does it look like to have integrity in your life? What does it look like to have integrity in your job? What does it look like to have integrity in how you serve the Lord? What does it look like to fear the Lord? Would you be described as someone who does? How can you fear the Lord more in your life? How can you step up and be a leader?
