Pushback in Progress

Nehemiah 6:15-19

Quote from Warren Weirsbe’s commentary on these verses, “If you can’t see Satan working, it’s probably because he has gone underground.” The wall is finished, and it seems as if the fight for Nehemiah should have been over! He won! But Satan is not one to give up. He is still trying to find a way to hurt their progress. Tobiah is trying to intimidate Nehemiah, and there are nobles who are loyal to Tobiah. The greed of some of the Jewish nobles has made them traitors to their own people! The Enemy is doing everything he can to hinder progress. Again, they are attacking Nehemiah. They are going after him in any way they can, and even the nobles of the Jews are taking the side of those who would oppose him. Tobiah, being tied to the tribe of Judah through marriage, was having too much sway over these nobles of Judah who are hoping to gain more influence and power for their tribe instead of seeing God’s will be done through Nehemiah. People are always going to bring pushbacks to progress, and sometimes those people are not on the outside of the church or our families but within. We need to investigate our own hearts and root out our sin, and also be able to confront the sin in others too, so we may all grow together, continuing our goal in the gospel to Connect, Grow, and Live! Nehemiah had the goal of completing the wall, and even when it seemed this was accomplished, there were still those trying to stop him. There are those who were intimidated and wanted to hurt him. Our work is not complete. We are to always work on growth together. We are to always be spreading the gospel, and we are to always be serving together. To live is Christ! Progress is slowed when we forget this as a church or as people. When we let our own selfish desires cloud us from our overall mission. It is also all the more sad when problems from within hinder progress in the mission of Christ. Do not let yourself become the main focus, and keep the focus on Christ!
