Main Point and Overview:
You are leaving your kids something…what is it? The fact is that the Bible is filled with focus on “what’s next!” From the Israelites pursuing the Promised Land of Canaan to the modern-day person giving his life to Jesus for dying on The Cross, there is always “what’s next!” While it is easy to try to survive day to day, you are meant to be pursuing a future that is defined by thriving. So, how are you considering that expectation as it relates to the next generation? What impressions are you making that will turn into values that they live by when they are out on their own? God always spoke to Israel about generational success. In fact, he challenged them to obey him, leading to positive ripple effects on the lives of their children and grandchildren. Ceremonies, examples, and physical “spiritual markers” were to lead their parenting style. It is also true that storytelling was to be a very important part of their children’s education. The Israelites were to tell their children of how Almighty Yahweh parted the Red Sea in half to save their ancestors. They were to share the miracles and moments that would stand out for their children. What stories are you telling of God’s goodness? Of course, this requires you to be aware of God’s goodness in your life. Of course, this requires active obedience to God which leads to blessings from God. Ultimately, the spiritual inheritance that the next generation is receiving from you will lead them to passionately pursue God. That is our goal. We are not looking for a phase, but a lifestyle. What are you reproducing in your kids? What spiritual inheritance are you leaving? What does their relationship to God look like…as a result of your priorities? God has given to us an amazing inheritance that we must pass on to our kids!
