Main Point and Overview:
The time had come! Jesus was ready to declare himself to be the Messiah, and he did as he rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. In that moment, the people celebrated him, but they did so with self-centered motives. They genuinely thought that he was about to bring political freedom to them from Rome. They misunderstood Jesus. So many people do. I hope you haven’t! The fact is that Jesus did not come to make your life more comfortable; in fact, he came to stretch your faith! So many of the people had come to see a miracle. Sadly, they missed the greatest miracle of all – forgiveness from the damning power of sin! Jesus made it clear to his disciples, who were actually listening, that it would be his sacrificial death that would birth the salvation of thousands of people! He took his priority of sacrifice, and he emphatically taught it to those same disciples. The fact is that true purpose is found in sacrifice and service. You can live your life for everything that will bring instant gratification, or you can live your life for what endures beyond this life! Our goal as a follower of Jesus must be fully attached to what is eternal over what is temporal. Ask yourself this question – how am I living for what genuinely pleases Jesus and what will advance the Kingdom of God? If you’re having a hard time answering that question, it might be time to reconsider the priorities of your life. Even after Jesus had performed so many miracles, most of the masses chose not to believe in him. Why? How could that be? It was because their “version of a Messiah” was NOT what they were truly getting from Jesus. What version of a Messiah are you looking for in life? It may be time to correct some misunderstandings and embrace the exclusive purpose God has for you!
