I don’t know about you, but I sure do love shopping on Amazon. I especially love it when I log in, find something I need or think I need, and then go to the shipping portion of the check out and see the greatest words “free next day shipping” or even better “same day shipping!” Amazon, however, has taught us the “I want it now” lifestyle. Unfortunately, that “I want it now” lifestyle leads to “I want it my way”, which then leads us down a slippery slope. Today's verses remind us that we ought to do life God’s way.
James 4:13-17
“Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.”
We need to have the mindset of doing God’s will for our lives every single day. I don't think any of us wake up in the morning thinking “I will share the Gospel with someone tomorrow.” No! We ought to share the gospel any chance we may get. We need to make our yeses be yeses and bring honor to God every single day. We can get caught up planning out everything and anything, but God has you where he needs you. Are you willing to live in the moment, live your life God’s way and share your faith, your story with those in front of you?
My challenge for you today is to make that phone call, have that conversation, whatever it may be that you keep saying “I will do it later.” Do it now, we are not guaranteed tomorrow, and we don't know when the Lord will return, so let's take up the challenge today, and every day going forward!
