Main Point and Overview:
Success doesn’t just happen; it’s the result of a process. We all want to be successful husbands or wives, fathers or mothers, leaders or followers, etc. We should desire to be successful disciples of Jesus Christ! In order to achieve spiritual success, we must have a proper mindset. To the professional world, a person must find the balance of confidence and humility, coupled with a strong work ethic, in order to succeed. It’s not much different in the spiritual world, although the stakes are much higher! For Joshua, God demanded that he lead the people with conviction to do as he was told. In today’s culture, the “giant” obstacles would have been too difficult to overcome for many leaders causing them to shrink back in fear. Joshua wasn’t like today’s leaders…and neither should you be! Instead, he marched forward when the pathway to success was difficult to comprehend. As a result, God blessed Joshua with victory, and the people grew to immensely revere and trust Joshua as a leader. Are you trusted as a leader? When people look at you, do they see someone worth following? Remember, you cannot lead others if you can’t lead yourself. In other words, before God would bless Israel, he demanded that they be “right with him!” Over the years, there have been plenty of talented people who “underperformed in their purpose” because they couldn’t or wouldn’t address the sin in their lives. Beware of this danger! Ultimately, our success comes from the Lord. Rely on his strength, not your own. Remember his past goodness, and you will stay grounded in humility for ongoing spiritual success. Be willing to obey God even when it may seem senseless. What’s your mindset like? How you answer that question will determine your leadership ceiling!
