Main Point and Overview:
Any time there is a transition of leadership, there are obstacles to overcome. Moses was a powerful and persistent leader for Israel, and now, he was passing the mantel to Joshua. What stood in front of Joshua must have felt daunting. That is why on multiple occasions, Joshua is reminded to “be strong and courageous.” It was a theme for him to embrace whether it came from Moses or God himself, and it was the necessary mindset to possess leading the Israelites forward into the promised land of Canaan. Courage embraces the future when it is unknown. Courage embraces the challenge of people when it is known. Courage embraces the feelings of discomfort knowing that there is a “big picture” in view. Joshua was facing a daunting task, but he was “up for the challenge!” What about you and me? In a culture that is always “countering Christianity,” are you grounded in what you know and believe? In a church world that is filled with impressionable youth, are you demonstrating “courage in crisis” trading comfort for commitment? Joshua had some experience, but he wasn’t fully experienced. Joshua had some influence, but he wasn’t a leader of this magnitude before now. We need to realize that every great leader had a beginning; he was given the opportunity to lead! Remember that reality when you hesitate to trust someone when the only thing that they lack is experience. It was Joshua’s time! Is it your time to lead? As a parent in our present culture, you are absolutely called to lead your kids. Are you willing to make the hard decisions? Courage isn’t courage without challenges! Before you can be a great influencer for the Kingdom of God, you must have a healthy mindset to prepare you. Is the time now to adjust your thinking?
