Desperate for More

2 Kings 2:7-10

Elijah’s mentorship of Elisha has borne fruit in the steadfastness of Elisha. After crossing the Jordan, Elijah asks Elisha a very important question. A question similar to when God offered Solomon anything his heart desired. Elijah asks Elisha, “what shall I do for you, before I am taken from you?” Elisha’s answer is like Solomon's in that they both wanted not worldly things but knowledge and closeness to God. Elisha wants a double portion of God’s Spirit. Elisha’s intent was not greed but wanted the power and tools to do his very best for God. In the Karate Kid film, Daniel was successful because of the efforts of his mentor. Elisha is equipped and ready to lead because of the efforts of Elijah. Is there someone in your life you can pour into? Mature believers need to be discipling newer and younger believers. If you are a younger believer, look for someone that can pour into your life. Be open to learning and growing in your relationship with God.
