“It’s My Turn” (Elisha’s Time)

Week 8
Main Point and Overview:
There is no prophet in the Old Testament like Elijah. The “spirit of Elijah” is a Biblical concept describing a prophetic anointing of bold confrontation against evil, a call to deep repentance, and the restoration of relationships between generations (Malachi 4:5-6). It wasn’t until the coming of John the Baptizer that there was such a confrontational and committed prophet of the Lord again (Luke 1:17). Elijah was a man of great character and principle. He famously stood against 850 evil prophets all by himself, and God used his courage to “shift an entire nation’s worship” back to Yahweh. We need modern-day Eliijah’s. Men and women who are faithful to God and willing to confront the evils that encompass those they love. Whoever was going to follow Elijah had “big shoes to fill!” Thankfully, the power of the Gospel is not dependent upon individuals; it comes from God! While Elijah is a “type” of leader that we all need to be at some level, he is presently with the Lord. Who was going to “fill his shoes” then, and who will “fill his shoes” now? Enter Elisha. It was his time. In fact, God was about to do even more miracles through Elisha then he did through Elijah. How is that possible? The truth is that we have seen powerful and impactful leaders over different generations. Men like Charles Spurgeon, D.L. Moody, and Billy Graham have come, but they have also gone. Their impact for the Kingdom of God is unquestioned, but their time is also over. God is raising up “new” leaders to “do even more” for his honor and glory. You might wonder how that could be possible. It’s because the power of the Gospel was never about human strength. It’s not about ability; it’s about availability. Are you available to be used by God? Elisha was. Not only did he make himself available, but he was also desperate to be used by God in even greater ways than his mentor! He was desperate for God’s power! We MUST realize that every generation needs men and women who are going to selflessly commit to being God’s ambassadors of truth. Somewhat recently, John MacArthur went to be with the Lord. It’s really hard to imagine anyone coming after him with all that he has done for the kingdom, yet it is happening now. Will you be that type of person? It’s your time!
