1 Timothy 4:12-16
If you are not aware yet, from reading my devotions, Nehemiah is one of my favorite books of the Bible. There are so many great lessons throughout the book that apply to modern day leadership. Nehemiah is a man of courage, strength, and perseverance. When the opposition came, he dealt with it while also continuing to move forward with his mission to build the wall. If you are anything like me, your mind goes to the comeback story of any sports team. When you are getting beaten in any sport, you have two options. 1. Give up completely and do not try, or 2. Continue to do the things you have committed to doing, no matter the end result. Now let’s look at any comeback story in sports history, 110% of those comeback stories choice option 2. They continue to make progress at each step of the way. Now I am not saying that it's going to end with a victory every single time, but what I will tell you is it will be rewarding as you are bringing honor to our Mighty Savior.
We now transition to our Journey of Faith, where we are called to make progress for the Gospel. We find in 1 Timothy 4:12-16
“12 Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. 13 Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. 14 Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you.15 Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. 16 Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.”
We too as Christians, have choices to make when we are faced with opposition. Those choices are the same as above; do we give up or continue on? I pray that we all have the strength to continue on! No matter your age or if you were just saved this morning or have been saved for years, we all have a part to play. If we all choose option 2 to keep making progress for the Gospel, think about how God will use that for his honor and glory! Let us push through opposition so that we can see others be reached by the progress when we didn’t stop. Let’s be a part of God’s story!
