You will Always Have Opposition

Nehemiah 3:5

It's amazing to read this passage within the context. You get to see all of the people who were willing and able to help with rebuilding the gates. Everyone is getting their spotlight in history and a chance to do something that they have been asked to do. Then, in verse 5, we see that the nobles of the Tekoites would not stoop so low to work. In their pride, they chose not to build, not to work, and oppose the repairs by choosing to stand idly by. Now, because of their pride, that is all they would be known for. They decided not to do something, and they are called out by the writer of Nehemiah. These are men who had the opportunity to do what is right and stood idly by while others did what was asked of them. All because of their pride! God is good. He gives us what we need and provides us with the opportunity to follow him. Do His work! This is a good lesson in what pride can lead to. These men will not have their names written down and will only be known as the proud nobles who stood idly by.
