What a Mess We’re In

Nehemiah 1:1-3 & Genesis 18:16-33

Genesis 18 with the story of Abraham and the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah are always a tough one to read. The people of the cities were truly wicked, and yet Abraham begged for them not to be destroyed because they are people and he believes surely, they are good and righteous people that live there, so God could not really mean to destroy everyone! We are all sinners, and without Christ, there is no way of ever reconciling that. We all deserve the judgment of God. It is also amazing in this passage to see the true power of prayer! Abraham talks to God and begs him, lowering his number time and time again about how many righteous people it will take to not destroy the city, and each time God agrees to not destroy them! God listens to us and our prayers, but He is also the righteous judge who must condemn the wicked. Jesus is the Savior of our world and of our hearts; without Him, we are a mess. All people are sinners capable of terrible, sinful things. Without Him, we are truly in a terrible mess and place! Thank Jesus for what He has done for us!
