Let's start the day with a mind-blowing discovery. The word team is not spelled with an I! The Christian lifestyle is not about yourself but what Jesus did in our place. Today's Bible verses tell us:
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” Philippians 2:3-4
That’s right, as believers in Christ we need to put others before ourselves. Now there must be balance. It’s okay to take care of yourself, you need to invest in your own journey of faith and your walk with Christ. However, if you only focus on yourself how do you have an impact? I recently shared on Facebook a baseball player for the Savannah Bananas who shared that it's not only the social media influencers or professional athletes who can have an impact on the world. When we begin to think about those things in front of our duty to share the Gospel, we are choosing to make it about us, he goes on to say that how often do we tell ourselves if God just puts us in that dream position, we will give him the honor and glory. What if instead we put others first and no matter your title or your position you, share the love of Christ. We are told in James 1:27 to take care of widows and orphans. We strive to be more Christ like each day he gives us. Let us not waste the days away wishing for that major impact that we think we need to make a splash for Christ. When you model the “it’s not about me” motto in your life, you will be planting seeds that you will never know about. Let us take time this week and find ways we can shift our focus from what I need from God, to what I can do for others to show them or tell them about God.
