Stretched Over Satisfied

1 Corinthians 4:8-13
The American dream is something that we all chase after, everyone wants to be successful. However, what does that truly mean? Does it mean you make a six-figure income, have no debt, or even have a cabin up north? Hear my heart, none of those are bad things, but as believers do those things make us successful in our journey of faith? In today's passage Paul calls out the Corinthians as they thought they were spiritually rich and already reigning. Paul speaks the opposite of their selfish mindset and speaks about hardships, weaknesses, hunger, rejection and sacrifice. The Corinthians were too comfortable to sum everything up while Paul was being stretched.

We must take a huge lesson away from the church in Corinth when it comes to being stretched. A danger we face as believers is that we face the risk of not growing because we are too comfortable. The apostles endured insults and responded with blessing. They faced persecution and persevered. They were misunderstood and answered with kindness. Their lives were marked by a willingness to be stretched beyond their own strength.

A "stretched over satisfied" mindset says:

I want growth more than comfort.
I want faithfulness more than recognition.
I want God to develop my character more than protect my convenience.
I want to keep learning, serving, and trusting rather than assuming I've arrived.
God often does His deepest work in seasons that challenge us. What feels like pressure may actually be preparation. What feels like weakness may be creating greater dependence on Christ.
