Acts 13:1-3, Ephesians 2:10
God has given all of us a calling! In this passage of Acts, we get to see a really awesome interaction between the believers and the Holy Spirit, who tells them very directly what they have been called to do. While praying and fasting, the Holy Spirit asks that Saul and Barnabas be set apart to do what He has called them to do. We are also called by God to do things! Now, for us, it does not always feel as straightforward as it does here in this passage. Sometimes we wonder what it is that God has planned for us. Actually, I would say it feels like this time and time again. We know God has a plan, but we do not always know our part in the plan or what God’s plan is for our lives. It can be difficult during these times of uncertainty. Here is what is truly amazing! Even though it does not always feel like God has a plan for us or has not called us to do anything that we understand and know, the truth that can only be found in God’s own Word tells us the exact opposite! Ephesians 2:8-10 tells us that those who have been saved through faith in Jesus Christ have been created in the handiwork of God to do good works! We have been called to do something! The Great Commission found in Matthew tells us to go and make disciples of all nations! The Bible is very clear about what each and every one is to be doing, no matter who we are. As a child, a parent, a husband, and a wife, God has given instructions to everyone! God does not hide the truth from us, though it does feel this way at times. We feel like we cannot simply know what God wants us to do. Life is hard! When things get difficult, we sometimes want to question God and say surely this cannot be the plan! God is all-knowing! He knows what he is doing, and it is absolutely amazing that he wants to use us as his children!
