Nehemiah 6:1-4
Nehemiah was given a job to do. Build the wall! He needed to continue this work no matter what. He knew what he needed to do and stuck to his work. Now, these people wanted to take him away and meet with him because they did not want Nehemiah to be able to finish his task. Time and time again, they sent him letters, and time and time and time again, he refused to meet with them. He was focused on the task at hand and did not let himself get swept away into something that was not his mission. Nehemiah did what needed to be done through hard work and prayer. I think of the idea of being persistent and how easy it is for us to get distracted. So many things are going on in today's world, and we have access to all of that information with the touch of a button! We can spend our whole day on the phone looking at the news or really nothing at all and waste our time, not accomplishing what the Lord has for us that day. Nehemiah did not get swindled by these men looking to harm him; he did not let their letters become a distraction to his duty in rebuilding the walls. He kept moving forward. In today’s world, we cannot let ourselves become distracted. We cannot let those who want to see us fail consume our minds. We need to keep moving forward, doing what God has for us with prayer and dedication.
