Luke 12:13-21
Let’s be honest, we all know there is something out there we are dreaming of, a bigger house, a better car, a better job. You get it, the list goes on for miles and miles. Maybe you even find yourself thinking, if I had a better car I could do _____. If I had a bigger house, I could do _____. Don’t feel guilty! We are all like this in some way or another, but here is when wishful thinking goes wrong. Jesus tells a parable in Luke 12 of a rich man with an abundant harvest. Just like many of us, the farmer’s first thought was I needed a bigger barn to store my harvest. However, the farmer took the idea one step further. He thought that if I had a bigger barn for all that I had, I could then live an easy life and not have to work. WOW! How often do we try to look for the easy route? The route that will give us what we want for the least amount of work? Jesus tells this parable to a man in the crowd who wanted him to tell his brother to split the money that he had from an inheritance.
As believers, are we truly content with where God has us? Are we willing to put the hard work in to see the Gospel go throughout the nations? God has us in the spot for a reason, and I know it may be hard to see why in the moment. Instead of looking towards bigger and better things, we need to keep our focus on Christ. Listen, as I write this devotion, I am writing to myself. The bigger house, I think we all chase, is okay to think about, but on a bigger scale, do your neighbors know you are a believer in Jesus Christ? Have you talked about Jesus with them? We must be reminded daily that God has you in your spot for a reason. The house, the job, no matter what. He can and he will use it for his Glory if we just remain focused on him.
