True Freedom

Galatians 5:13

I imagine we all spent time over the 4th of July weekend celebrating with friends and family. Maybe you even went to see fireworks, shot them off yourselves, and at the bare minimum, I know we all heard them when we were trying to sleep in the middle of the night. With all that being said, we spend a whole weekend celebrating the freedom we have by living in America. It is so easy to celebrate the freedom we have in flesh, but what about our freedom in Christ? As followers of Christ, we have freedom over our struggles, battles, and sins, but do we celebrate the true freedom? Do we even know how to celebrate it? Well, thankfully, we have some clarity in the book of Galatians. Paul writes to the church and informs them in chapter 5.

13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.

He tells us that we should not indulge in what our flesh wants but rather serve one another. Think about this for a minute, what if we put the same amount of time we spend on the 4th of July into celebrating our freedom found in Christ, by serving one another with love. How much of a Gospel impact could be made in our families and friends? Let us also be quick to understand that our freedom in Christ is not a once-a-year celebration but a daily one.

J.D. Greer has a philosophy for his church members to have a” one” Someone you commit to praying for, spending time with, whatever it may be, to encourage them in their walk with the Savior, or even lead them to a relationship. I ask you, do you have a “one?” Imagine the work God could do if we lived out the true freedom by celebrating it with just one person a year! To give you a glimpse of what this could look like...... Emmanuel averages 774 people between both campuses. If we all had a one, the kingdom could potentially double in size.

My encouragement to you is that while we are in the celebratory mood of summer.  Be bold, dependable, be loving! Go celebrate your true freedom!
