Hebrews 12:2
What is your favorite song? If you’re anything like me, it depends on the week! It’s also hard to choose just one. I think I probably have 5 favorite songs right now. The same is true about Bible verses, I have so many favorites! Choosing one is very difficult, but I’ll share one that’s been written on my mirror for the last year and a half. Hebrews 12:2 says “Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”
When I’m going through a tough time, and there's been lots of those lately, I think of this verse. I reflect on what Jesus actually went through FOR ME. When you consider something, you ponder it. You think intently about it. Thinking about the absolute gruesome, inhumane death Jesus endured is something to not be forgotten. As we go through this life, I think we sometimes forget the price that was paid. We forgot that the cost of our sin cost Jesus his life. It was my cross, but he followed through with his promises and took it for me. The punishment that I deserved, he took my place. Speaking of songs, I’ll insert a lyric that is fitting. “I’ll never understand the repercussions of my every sin. Is this love or is this hatred flowing out from bitterness. How can it be?”. When I think of how my sin nailed him to the cross, I can’t help but feel just the way the song says it. I have so much love for Jesus’ sacrifice, but I have hatred over sin that did that to him!
We all have seasons where life is just plain hard. We grow weary, we lose heart. Did Jesus take our place so we could stay there? Staying in that weariness and hopelessness. NO! Life for the Christian isn't easy but it's one of joy! Thinking of the opposition, mockery, and torture Jesus went through compels me to live for him! It empowers me to live for him out of love and not obligation! God forbid I ever view the Christian life as too hard! That is mockery compared to how hard it was for Jesus. So friend, don’t grow weary in sharing the good news of Jesus, serving in the church, giving, or fill in the blank! It is your great privilege to do so!
