Psalm 139:1-10
If you’ve ever spent any time with a toddler or a young child, then you’ve probably experienced a multitude of “whys”. A recent conversation with one of my grandchildren went something like this;
Them: “Can we go to the park today?”
Me: “No, not today.”
Them: “Why?”
Me: "Because it’s raining.”
Them: “Why?”
Me: “Because God sent rain to water the flowers.”
Them: “Why?”
Me: “Because the flowers needed a drink.”
Them: “Why?”
Why? Why? Why? As you can imagine, the sweet sprinkling of questions didn’t just end there. Kids are naturally curious, and they have a desire to understand and know the world around them. Information and knowledge can help them make sense of their surroundings, feel more secure, and can lead to a better understanding of themselves. I guess that we adults aren’t very different. We all have a desire to know things or to be in the know. So, that leads me to a “why” question that I have for you. Why is God’s word in Psalm 139:1-10 vital to know?
I would love to hear how you answered that “why”. Curious, were you filled with joy and delight knowing that you and I are fully known and fully loved by God? Psalm 139 is a chapter that I urged (FORCED) my children to memorize. And they did it. There was a time that each of them, including myself, could recite it by memory. I wanted them to know the joy of God’s intimate and unfathomable knowledge of their lives, thoughts, and even their future. Why? I wanted them to know the hope and assurance of God’s love. I wanted them to trust in God’s intimate knowledge and loving care and I still desire that for them today.
Have you been wondering why your intimacy with God has faded or not sure why you’ve made your life all about you and not given one iota of thought to your influence for Christ? Know this, there is joy in knowing that God understands you completely.
Do you know the God who knows you?
